Grants from the Government of Alberta

 

Community Facility Enhancement Program

  • Health topic: Physical activity. Funding is to build, repair, or upgrade recreation, culture, and other community facilities.
  • Who can apply: Organizations (like parent associations registered under the Societies Act of Alberta). First Nations and Métis Settlements are also eligible.
  • Grant amount: Up to $125,000 for the small funding stream. Funds are awarded on a matching basis.
  • How to apply: Complete the application package on the program website.
  • Deadline: Next deadline for the small funding stream is May 15, 2021There are other funding cycles in September and January.

Community Initiatives Program (CIP) – Project Based Grant

  • Health topic: All. Funding is to support projects that enhance and enrich communities in Alberta, including new programs and community events, gender equity projects, technology, and portable equipment.
  • Who can apply: Organizations (like parent associations registered under the Societies Act of Alberta). First Nations and Métis Settlements are also eligible.
  • Grant amount: Up to $75,000.
  • How to apply: Complete the application package on the program website.
  • Deadline: Next deadline is May 15, 2021. There are other funding cycles in September and January.

In-Motion Network – Girls in Motion

  • Health topic: Physical activity. Funding is available to support 'girl-friendly' recreational, sport, and physical activity programs.  
  • Who can apply: Parent associations registered under the Societies Act of Alberta, municipalities, and community organizations.
  • Grant amount: Up to $2,500.
  • How to apply: Complete the online application form.
  • Deadline: Next deadline is April 1 (for programs running between May and August, 2021).

In-Motion Network – Go Girl

  • Health topic: Physical activity. Grants are for one-day events that bring teen girls together to get active in a relaxed, fun atmosphere. Past events have included activities like hip-hop, power yoga, kickboxing, and weight training.
  • Who can apply: Parent associations registered under the Societies Act of Alberta, municipalities, and community organizations.
  • Grant amount: Up to $2,500.
  • How to apply: Complete the online application package.
  • Deadline: Next deadline is April 1 (for programs running between May and August, 2021).

Grants and awards from the Government of Canada

 

Healthy Canadians and Communities Fund

  • Health topic: Healthy living. The goal is to help Canadians move more, sit less, eat healthier, and not smoke. Funding is for interventions focused on priority populations that face inequalities and are at greater risk of developing chronic disease.
  • Who can apply: A complete list of eligible applicants is provided in the applicant guide. Schools are eligible to apply.    
  • Grant amount: Funding requests for the Design Phase must be between a minimum of $50,000 up to a maximum of $1,000,000. Applicants are required to have a 1:1 match in funds for the amount requested.
  • How to apply: The application process consists of two stages. The first stage is the submission of an Advanced Screening Form. The purpose is to provide a brief overview of your project and your organization's capacity. Only successful applicants from the first stage will be invited to the second stage (Full Proposal). 
  • Deadline: The deadline to submit your completed Advanced Screening Form is April 14, 2021 at 3pm Eastern Daylight Time.

Passion to purpose

  • Health topic: All topics—youth applicants identify an issue in their community, and design a unique project that helps to provide a solution.
  • Who can apply: Youth ages 14-30 interested in volunteering with their peers in a small or large group.  
  • Grant amount: Grants of $500 for simple ideas and small groups, $1,000 for bigger ideas and bigger groups, and $2,000 for ideas with greatest impact and scale.
  • How to apply: Varies based on grant stream. Visit passiontopurpose.ca/grants/ and click on the grant stream of interest. 
  • Deadline: Ongoing.

Rising Youth 

  • Health topic: All topics—youth applicants identify an issue that is important to their community. The current priority is on applications related to COVID-19.
  • Who can apply: Individual students (ages 15 and up) can apply. Impact grants ($1,500) require an adult mentor.
  • Grant amount: Grants of $250, $750, and $1,500.
  • How to apply: Varies based on grant amount. Visit risingyouth.ca and click on the grant stream of interest.

Duke of Edinburgh's International Award - Canada

  • Health topic: All topics—youth applicants develop their own challenge programs based on personal goals in four areas: community service, skill building, physical recreation, and adventurous journey. Projects involve voluntary extra-curricular activities and require a minimum commitment of 26 weeks.
  • Who can apply: Youth 14-24 years old can apply for one of three levels: bronze, silver, gold. There are minimum ages to start each level, and your program must be finished by your 25th birthday. 
  • Award type: This is a program that recognizes individual achievement, commitment, and passion. The award is the process, not the prize!
